Thermocouples for Industrial Applications
Industrial thermocouple assemblies are designed to be used in the most severe and demanding environments. The choice of a specific style is to a large degree determined by the temperature working range, ambient atmospheric or media conditions, as well as the size and shape required for the application. Control requirements such as accuracy and speed of response may also be considerations.
Base Metal Industrial Thermocouples
Base metal alloys, J, K, E, T, N with standard or special limits wire available in single or dual configurations.
Industrial Straight Tube
Metal or ceramic tube, especially appropriate for severe and demanding environments.
Industrial 90° Elbow Tube
Metal or ceramic tube for salt baths, heat treating and molten metal applications.

Protection Tubes
To insure longer life with accuracy, thermocouples must be adequately protected from corrosion, contamination and abrasion.
Industrial Base Metal Elements
Industrial elements are used directly as temperature sensing elements, or as replacement or component items for insertion into a protection tube.
Industrial Straight Metal or Ceramic Tube Thermocouple
Base metal thermocouple assemblies are designed to be used in the most severe and demanding environments. The choice of a specific style is to a large degree determined by the temperature working range, ambient atmospheric or media conditions, as well as the size and shape required for the application. Control requirements such as accuracy and speed of response may also be considerations.
When speed of response is critical, specify the open end construction. An exposed element is directly subject to corrosion and physical damage; therefore, this style should be used only after consideration of the relative need for fast response versus thermocouple life.
Another feature for improving response time is the butt welded junction. This design has less mass and therefore faster response that the twist, which is normally supplied by the factory. The twist weld offers greater mechanical strength and longer life.
When possible, the sensor should be installed in a vertical plane rather than horizontal to prevent sagging.

Offers the same functionality and features as other industrial sensors, except will accommodate wire only down to 14 gauge.
This thermocouple can be mounted to the process with compression attaching device.

Industrial Case Hardened Thermocouple
This assembly is particularly suited to measuring temperature of asphalt and other granular materials such as grain, sand, gravel, and pulverized coal. The element is solid 14 gauge with porcelain insulation inside a 1/4" NPT seamless steel case hardened protection pipe.
The end of the pipe is cut at an angle to protect the element and allow close contact with the material. The tip of the thermocouple with grounded junction style is welded to the end of the pipe for greater sensitivity.

Industrial Protection Tubes
A thermocouple should have as little protection as possible consistent with the length of service consideration. Sensitivity will be reduced and slower response to temperature changes results from very heavy tubes.
To insure longer life with accuracy, thermocouples must be adequately protected. Corrosion, contamination and abrasion all shorten the life of thermocouples. Protection tubes are capable of withstanding these actions.
Thermocouple protection tubes are available in a wide range of types and sizes.
Closed end metal tubes are spun and welded closed. Ceramic and cast iron tubes are cast with a closed end.

Protection tubes are used in a wide variety of applications, including food preparation; petroleum; chemical processes; mixed acids, lactic acid, dyeing tanks; high temperature hardening, nitriding, salt baths, vitreous enameling, non ferrous metals (tin, lead, zinc or babbit metal), smelting, low temperature blast furnaces; Potassium Cyanide salt baths, caustic and brines, tinning, molten non-ferrous metals, annealing; ceramics industry, brick and ceramic kilns, steel soaking, foundries and many others.
